Pantone Color of 2022: Very Peri, The Bluest Hue of All

Did you know that 95% is emotional and 5% rational when it comes to choosing a color? At a very young age, we are drawn to specific colors. Brands leverage color heavily as part of their loyalty appeal. Color is a big deal, and so is the unveiling of Pantone Color Institutes’ color of the year.

Each year, Pantone’s experts examine social trends, culture shifts, and the impact of both elements on style to select a color representative of the forthcoming year. “The Pantone Color of the Year reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that color can hope to answer,” says Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute.

PANTONE 17-3938, also known as Very Peri, is a vibrant shade of periwinkle – a brilliant blend of blue and electric violet with shades of red undertones. It’s a vivid color full of confidence and curiosity with a carefree sense of the future. Its radiance serves as a symbol of light as we enter a new year and hope, a new, fresh phase.

Our cultural perspectives have changed after another year of a global pandemic marked by long periods of isolation. Most notably, our physical and digital lives have converged, creating colors and style trends that reflect our mutual online presence. And so, Very Peri is also very modern in its reflection of the melding of the digital and physical worlds.

In Pantone’s history, 2022 will mark the first time a hue has been created for Color of the Year. It was designed with the intent to be a color whose courageous presence encourages creativity.

Appropriately, Very Peri has the power to exude an optimistic, spirited, creative attitude for a world of real imagination in an age of digital innovation.
